This page provides information about poster submissions to the eScience 2021 conference. It is part of the general Call for Papers which you should read first, if you have not yet done so.
Accepted two page posters proposals will be published in the main conference IEEE Proceedings through the IEEE Digital Library.
If you have any questions that neither this page nor the Call for Papers can answer, please contact the poster chair.
Poster presentation
EScience poster sessions provide an opportunity to share ideas in a less formal setting than a paper presentation.
Contact the poster chair for further information.
A poster is a single page document, typically combining text and images, that embodies a succinct description of work that has been done. Presenting a poster is a good way to discuss and receive feedback on a work in progress that has not been fully developed into a paper.
Posters should not re-present previously published work.
Poster proposal review will not be double blind. eScience 2021 will be held on-line, and we expect presenters will be able to present their poster via videoconference during a dedicated time slot. More information on that will be made available on the conference page. This would be similar to how poster presenters would interact with attendees in person – attendees can (virtually) attend your presentation and ask questions in real time. More details about presentation formats and materials will be provided once the virtual format of eScience has been finalized.
Please note that at least one contributor is required to register, attend and present the poster.
Poster topic ideas
The topic of a poster presentation is not limited. However, the topic should lend itself to presentation in poster format, ideally with additional details available in the form of web references. You might consider a poster presentation of materials that you would like to share, or preliminary research findings. Examples might include (but are not limited to):
- life sciences
- health research
- digital humanities and social sciences
- engineering
- physics
- chemistry
- astronomy
- climate science
- environmental science
- earth science
Formatting the poster
Suggestions for poster design are given in Research Posters 101. Although these suggestions were published for student researchers, the ideas are also applicable to posters for this conference.
Formatting the poster proposal
A poster proposal comprises two pages page, in PDF format, explaining what the poster is about. The full proposal contains an abstract and a body that describes your poster (as detailed below).
Authors are invited to submit poster proposals (2 pages) for an oral presentation using the IEEE 8.5×11 manuscript guidelines: double-column text using single-spaced 10-point font on 8.5×11-inch pages. Templates are available from http://www.ieee.org/conferences_events/conferences/publishing/templates.html.
Poster proposal contents
Authors are invited to submit a 2-page paper for a poster presentation using the same template as for papers (see main conference page) including figures and references.
A poster proposal will typically include the following information.
- Title: a title for the poster.
- Proposer: include name, affiliation, and email address. Correspondence related to the conference will be sent by email. Please check your spam filter if you haven’t received an expected notification because the bulk emails generated by the conference software are sometimes blocked.
- Abstract: a description of the poster. The same abstract will also need to be copied into a text box on the submission page. Please be sure that your description is accurate and that both submitted copies (in the PDF poster proposal and in the submission text box) are exactly the same.
- Content: A description of the expected content of the poster, along with an indication of why the topic is significant: why conference attendees will find it interesting.
